Chichen Itza

Located in northern part of the Yucatán, Chichen Itza is a large pre-Columbian archaeological site built by the Maya, Toltec and Itza civilizations. We visit the Kukulcan Pyramid (El Castillo) and see Chac Mool, visit the Temple of the Warriors with its hundreds of columns, play ball at the Great Ball Court, and stop by the Ossario Pyramid, El Caracol observatory and La Iglesia.

Chichen Itza, which means “at the mouth of the well of Itza,” is one of the new seven wonders of the world. The monuments at Chichen Itza observe and commemorate movements of the sun, the moon, and Venus. The great pyramid, Kukulcan, is aligned with the equinoxes and is honors, Kukulcan, the Feathered Serpent deity (known as “Quetzalcoatl” to the Aztec’s).
